Catharine was born in 1838 at Bruton, Somerset,[1] the daughter of John Saxon[2] and his wife, Mary. In 1841, she was living at Milton Clevedon, Somerset[3] and in 1851 was staying with her aunt and uncle, John and Catherine Mathews at Saint James Clerkenwell, Middlesex.[4]
The Saxon family emigrated to New Zealand on the "Maori" in 1853. In 1859, Catharine married Henry Alexander Tarrant.[5]
Catherine passed away in 1931[6] and is buried at Motueka Cemetery as Mary (Katharine) Tarrant.[7]
