Joseph Saxon was born in 1849 in Burslem. He was the son of Joseph Saxon and Sarah (Wotton) Saxon. His birth was registered in the second quarter of 1849, in Wolstanton district.
By 1881, Joseph was 31 and still single. He was living with his cousin John Saxon in Parr, St Helens, and working as a coal miner.
