She grew up spending every summer with her grandparents in Weaverville, California. There were many happy memories of camping, fishing and visiting cousins. She also had a creative bug in her and spent many of her younger and teen years performing on stage and in front of a camera, in both commercials and film.
Shonda's Acting Headshot - age 16
Her first job was at a restaurant called Sea Galley, a local seafood restaurant. Her second job was a script writer for a small educational film company. Some of the film work she did as a teen was for this company and they hired her as a writer right out of high school after she presented a script she had written in English class her senior year. The script was about teen suicide and she was called to a meeting where the owner told her he wanted to buy her script and passed her a check for $1,000. She was 17. She worked on writing scripts for a little over a year and then Hollywood Video came to town. She applied at store #2 and was hired on 12 June 1990. She spent a little over 18 years with Hollywood and wore many hats. Some of her positions were Store Director, District Manager, Regional Manager of Store Openings and Communications Manager.
While closing the store late one night in April 1992, she met Stephen Michael Feather Sr. (1949-2017), the man who would become her husband. They began dating in June 1992 and were married 27 July 2002.
Wedding of Steve Feather and Shonda Sayers
Stephen was in Vietnam and served in the Army Special Forces group and G2 Intelligence. After the service, they wanted him to join the CIA but he chose to join local law enforcement. He would make Chief of Police by age 35 - the youngest police chief in the state of California.
Steve introduced Shonda to his love of Volkswagens. Throughout their years together, they owned a 1966 Bug, a 1967 Bus and lastly a 1971 Double Cab Kombi - which Shonda still owns today. Shonda introduced Steve to her love of the arts and they spent many evenings out watching Broadway musicals that came to town or classical concerts at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

1967 Bus - Camping in 1996
1971 VW Double Cab Kombi-2
Whichever VW they had, they loved taking car rides, mainly either to the coast in the west or through the Columbia River Gorge to the east. When they had the Bus, they would camp in it at various camp sites throughout Oregon and Washington. When they got the Kombi, they would take an annual summer trip to Mount St. Helens to enjoy the scenery and do a little hiking.
Steve Feather and Mount St. Helens
In the early 2000's, Steve ended up getting venous stasis, which is a circulatory issue in the lower extremities. He was not diabetic, which is the main cause of leg circulatory issues. Many Vietnam Vets had the same thing and they wondered if it was related to Agent Orange. He began walking with crutches and Shonda became his caregiver, changing his leg bandages daily.
In 2011, Shonda began working at the local animal shelter as the Director of Community Relations. She worked here until December 2013. She quit her job here to spend more time with her mother, who had early-onset Alzheimer's, and take more care of Steve who was dealing with more leg infections and surgeries.
Shonda is a Photographer
Not one to stay idle to too long, in 2014 she decided to take up photography. She knew she wanted to photograph newborns, so she spent a year training on how to safely pose newborns and then started her business.
On 13 January 2016, Shonda lost her mother to early-onset Alzheimer's. It was the same disease that took her sister, Judy (Worthington) Snodgrass, 8 years earlier. A couple weeks later, on the morning of 2 February 2016, Steve woke up and something wasn't right. He could only say a few words. Shonda got him in the car and headed for the VA hospital in Portland. Just before exiting for the hospital, Steve had a grand mal seizure in the car. An ambulance was called and he was taken up the hill to the hospital. A month later, after various tests, MRI's, CT scans and a cranial biopsy, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform Grade IV - the most aggressive and 100% terminal brain cancer. 11 months later, on 5 January 2017, after an AMAZING 25 years together, Shonda lost Steve.
Shonda is still a newborn photographer today. Knowing how important grandparents are in a child's life, she ensures that if the grandparents are available, that they also get a portrait with their grandchild. So when the grandparents pass on, the grandchild will have something to remember and cherish for generations.
She also volunteers her time and talent as a photographer to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, an organization that offers bereavement portraits to families who have lost a baby.

Thank you Shonda for participating in the July 2024 Connect-a-thon with the Northwest Terriers. Together we brought in 3,025 added profiles. Your count at the end of the Thon was 416 profiles added. I admire and appreciate all you do for the Northwest Terriers and the thons. Friday was Jeff and my 38th anniversary and we ended up going out of town to celebrate Saturday through Sunday afternoon. I didn't get too much of a chance to contribute.
I'm looking forward to working with you on October's Source-a-thon.
I'm sorry, I thought I had replied to you. I got quite a few messages during the Thon. I am not working farther on him at this point as I have over 700 profiles to clean up from the Thon. So please feel free to work on him. His wife, Clara Worthington, is my 2nd cousin, twice removed.
He's now connected after adding three generations. He's from the Newport, Rhode Island Stanton's and so related via my maternal grandmother rather than the Stanton surname.
It's been nearly 24 hours since the Connect-a-thon started. As of this writing you have contributed 150 profiles to our teams score. We are happy you came back to the Northwest Terriers for April's Connect-a-thon. Join us on the channel or the G2G Team Chat page for any questions, comments, or just for fun chatting.
Remember, you must have at least one valid source for each profile you create. The source is the identification of where you obtained information. A family tree is not a source.
Shonda: re G2G question violent death of child, the profile manager who posted was born in the 1950s as seen on her profile, her profile shows a private sister born in the 1950s, who perhaps had a child who was the posters nephew when she was 18-25, about 1970-1975 and which means her great nephew was born perhaps about 1995 to 2015 and died recently.. at age 8.
I was born in the 1950s my great nephew is now 12 years old.
It all seems far too recent

Thank you, cousin Kay! You and I are 7th cousins, 3 times removed through Mareen Duvall.
And I am a volunteer photographer for NILMDTS (Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep) which is an organization that takes bereavement photos for families suffering the loss of a baby. So I appreciate that WikiTree wants to remember them too!
Thank you for taking the time and interest to help me move on a bit with my family search. Ironically, I had found the military card for Andrew, mentioning Tilla, but I couldn't make the connection. I had no idea that I had family in the USA at that time. Also, the marriage information on my parents is quite important to me, as are the other sources you cited. Again, Thank You for the very rapid response to my help request. You are an extremely kind and impressive person.

Thank you so much for the information you left for me on the G2G forum. I still need to find out how to type the name in the box for the Quaker friend.

Thanks, Karen! After designing the logo for the last Thon in January and cleaning up the team space page, I helped Jean Andrews with communication to the team. So I just fell back into it naturally. I'm just a big cheerleader for the team.
Thank you for your work on Howell ancestors. I'm connected to Mary Jane Hutton Howell's mother Manda Jarvis-3230. There are surprises in every family, are there not? Best from Jane
You're welcome! I did this during the recent Connect-a-Thon as I had more of my Howell family to enter. I've left some of their children's profiles without sources as I am training a new mentee on how to build profiles. We have an upcoming Zoom call as she is more of a visual learner. And yes, there are definitely surprises in every family! Thank you for the message! Shonda (Sayers-Howell) Feather
