I also have Scarlet/Scarlett in my family. I have not gotten far in the research since this is farther back on my tree. I love this name and hope I can find out more. I wouldn't be surprised if we were connected somewhere as it does not seem to be a common name.

Emma :-)

Yes, Emma — from what I've heard from my extended family, all Scarletts descend from a single Italian family (i.e. Scarlatti) that left Naples in the Middle Ages and traveled through France, settling in a part of Great Britain that would later be disputed (Northumbria/Northumberland). When their side lost, the Scarletts scattered. They are now sprinkled throughout Great Britain, Ireland, and the former British colonies.

My 3rd great grandfather Thomas Scarlett was a capmaker and haberdasher who immigrated from Dublin to Manhattan in the 1840s with his family. In the 1850s, the family moved, along with their business, to Brooklyn. Some of Thomas Scarlett's descendants remained in Brooklyn for generations, gradually moving from Downtown Brooklyn through Red Hook and Sunset Park to Bay Ridge, where I was born.

Hello --

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Elizabeth, Welcome to the Puritan Great Migration Project. I am so pleased to have you here to collaborate with you on the profiles of Mary Bliss and possibly on her husband Joseph Parsons, as I noted that his profile does not yet have inline citations. I'm their descendant also, they are my 9th great grandparents.

I sent you a private message, so you can get back to me there, or else post a comment on my profile page.

I look forward to hearing from you.
