John Scatcherd, son of Thomas Scatcherd, was born at Beverley, Yorkshire, in 1800.[1][2] In 1821[3] he sailed for America. After arriving in Canada, he went to Little York, now Toronto; later he and his brother Thomas founded Wyton, Nissouri Township. He opened a mill and tannery, then in 1831 moved to London, U.C., where he ran a store. [4][5] He became a leading citizen of Middlesex County and served in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada from 1854 to 1858.[6]
