Biography

SCHAEFER-On June 19, 1952, John W. Schaefer, of 114 Florence avenue, Irvington beloved husband of Mary Walter Schaefer and devoted father of Robert J. Schaefer, John George Schaefer, Mrs. John Stolz, Mrs. William Frank and Mrs. Albert Mueller and devoted brother of Mrs. Anna Frank. Relatives and friends, Irvington Police Department, Irvington P.B.A. Local No. 29 and Irvington Exempt Firemen and St. Peter's Holy Name Society are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the Funeral Apartments (George Ahr & Son), 700 Nye avenue at Springfield avenue, Irvington, on Monday, June 23, at 9 A.M., a High Mass of Requiem will be offered for the repose of his soul. Internment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

John W. Schaefer, 70, Retired Irvington Cop - A high mass of requiem for John W. Schaefer of 114 Florence avenue, Irvington, retired patrolman there, will be held Monday at 10 A.M. in St. Leo's Church, Irvington. The funeral will be from the George Ahr & Son Funeral Apartments, 700 Nye avenue, Irvington, at 9. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Mr. Schaefer died Thursday after a long illness. He was 70. Born in Newark, he moved to Irvington when he was 14 years old. He was a member of the Police Department 33 years, retiring five years ago. He served his last 10 years in the department stationed in the Irvington Town Hall. Mr. Schaefer also was an exempt fireman, having served as a volunteer in Irvington for several years. He was an honorary member of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association and a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Peter's Chapel. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Walter Schaefer; two sons, Robert J. of Chatham and John G. of Hawthorne; three daughters, Mrs. William Frank of Spring Lake, Mrs. Albert Mueller of Union and Mrs. John Stolz of Irvington; a sister, Mrs. Anna Frank of Irvington, and six grandchildren.
