Johannes Schaeffer was the husband of Maria Elizabeth Schaeffer, who was born in Germany in about 1664 and emigrated from to America in 1710 as part of the large-scale emigration of Protestants from the German Palatine region. She settled in Schoharie, New York, together with her sons, Johannes and Heinrich. Johannes, her husband, apparently died during the sea crossing or shortly after arrival in America.
Johannes Schaeffer is listed as an adult man on some of New York Governor Robert Hunter's records of Palatine immigrants. He is inferred to have been Maria Elizabeth's husband. Based on his absence from later records, he is presumed to have died during the sea crossing or shortly after arriving in America.
