Biography

George Philip Schauer was born on Tuesday,July 6, 1869 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. She and his twin sister, Josephine Victoria Schauer, were born to Philip Jacob Schauer (Monday, January 3, 1830 - Sunday, July 28, 1912) and Roselie M. Crescence Boll Schauer (Sunday, January 15, 1832 - Saturday, November 9, 1905). His father was a machinist for thirty-seven years for Canton's Aultman Company.

On Tuesday, July 14, 1891, George married Margaret Jane Partington in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. They raised four children: Philip Amos Schauer (Wednesday, October 21, 1891 - Thursday, February 5, 1976), Earl Edward Schauer (Wednesday, (March 24, 1897 - Sunday, December 24, 1961), Walter George Schauer (Thursday, November 26, 1903 - Sunday, April 5, 1970), Dolores M. Schauer Kline (Sunday, February 25, 1912 - Tuesday, February 24, 1976).

George was a machinist for the first twenty years of his employment. In 1920 and 1930 he was listed in the U.S. Censuses as a roll turner at a foundry (steel mill), In the 1930 U.S. Census his wife, Margaret, is listed as a cook in a restaurant. George was a member of, and served as the clerk for, the Modern Woodmen of America and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Friday, August 27, 1915, Canton Repository, on page 12, reported that the Fife Brothers brought suit for $41.43 alleged to be due on the account of George P. Schauer. The Saturday, February 5, 1916, Canton Repository, reported on page 5 that George P. Schauer won in court when the jury rejected a suit brought by the Fife Brothers Company regarding a plumbing bill.

As a write-in candidate supported by the Democratic Party, George was elected as Canton's seventh ward councilman on Tuesday, August 14, 1917. The Tuesday, October 14, 1924, Canton Repository, had a front page account which said that $ 55 in cash, cuff links valued at $25, an automatic revolver, necklace, rosary, wrist watch, and ring were reported stolen at the family home on Woodlawn Ave., NW, when looters broke a cellar door window to gain entrance.

Margaret Partington Schauer Morgan (Mrs. Frank W. Morgan) died on Sunday, March 19, 1950, in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. She is buried in Section T at West Lawn Cemetery in Canton. George Philip Schauer passed away at his home after a short illness on Friday, October 3, 1930, in Canton. He is buried in Section T at West Lawn Cemetery in Canton.
