Walter Joseph Schauer was born on Monday, March 4, 1912, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His parents were Francis Albert Schauer (Wednesday, September 6,1882 - Sunday, April 30, 1944) and Anastasia S. Neven Schauer (Sunday, October 4, 1885 - Saturday, February 9, 1929). His parents were married in Chicago on Wednesday, February 22, 1905. Walter was the fourth of their ten sons. His father was employed as a switchman on the railroad, and late in his life as a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
In the 1930 U.S. Census Walter was working as a bill clerk for a telephone company and living with his father and five brothers as well as his late mother's parents. A tragic accident marred Walter's life on Saturday, July 7, 1934. The Rhinelander Daily News, Monday, July 9, 1934, page one, reported that, "The Milwaukee county district attorney office was investigating the death of the Brinza boy, who was killed Saturday afternoon when a truck driven by Walter Schauer, Chicago, a CCC worker, backed over him in front of his home."
In the 1930's Walter married Veronica Danko (Wednesday, April 1, 1914 - Sunday, December 7, 1986) in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. They had five children: Francis Joseph Schauer (Wednesday, March 2, 1938 - Wednesday, March 11, 1981), Alice Schauer Trujillo ( ? ), Loretta Schauer (1945 - ? ), Cynthia Schauer ( ? ) and Judith Schauer ( ? ).
In the 1940 U.S. Census Walter was living with his wife, Veronica, four year old child Alice Joe, two year old child Frank, and was employed as a sales clerk. The family was living in the household of Veronica's mother. Two of Veronica's younger siblings also were living in the home.
For the 1958 Primary Election in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Walter was the Democratic candidate for Ward 3 Committeeman for the City of Oak Creek. Also running was Republican Louis Hess. Louis Hess was elected Republican committeeman for the Oak Creek 3rd ward. Walter Schauer was elected Democratic committeeman for the Oak Creek 3rd ward.

Funeral, Sat., Feb. 28, at 8:30 a.m., from the Molthen-Bell 700 Milwaukee av., South Milwaukee,, to ST. MATTHEW'S church at 9 a.m. Interment at St. Matthews cemetery. In state Fri., 4 p.m. Rosary Fri., 8 p.m.
Walter passed away on Thursday, February 26, 1959, in Oak Creek, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
