Gordon Aloysius Schauer was born on Thursday, November 16, 1916, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His parents were Francis Albert Schauer (Wednesday, September 6,1882 - Sunday, April 30, 1944) and Anastasia S. Neven Schauer (Sunday, October 4, 1885 - Saturday, February 9, 1929). His parents were married in Chicago on Wednesday, February 22, 1905. Gordon was the sixth of their ten sons. His father was employed as a switchman on the railroad, and late in his life as a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
On Wednesday, June 18, 1941, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 ft., 8 in., and weighed 131 lbs. His civilian employment was listed as stenographer and typist.
Gordon married Margaret Ann Kraft (Thursday, October 12, 1922 - Sunday, March 25, 2012) in the late 1940's in Illinois. They had ten children: Margaret Ann "Peggy" Schauer Danbury (Friday, April 4, 1947 - living in 2017), Gordon Aloysius Schauer II (Saturday, July 24, 1948 - living in 2017), Stella Marie Schauer (Saturday, January 28, 1950 - Wednesday, February 22, 2012), Lawrence A. Schauer (Sunday, February 10, 1952 - living in 2017), Mary Lou Schauer Dennis (Thursday, August 26, 1954 - living in 2017), Nancy Ellen Schauer Kerns (Tuesday, July 10 1956 - Thursday, December 16, 2010), Nancy Lorraine Schauer Rogers (Saturday, May 10, 1958 - living in 2017), Gregory Leo Schauer (Tuesday, February 2, 1960 - Thursday, June 13, 2013), Donald A. Schauer (Sunday, August 26, 1962 - living in 2017), Sandra Jean Schauer (Friday, January 3, 1964 - Saturday, September 30, 1978).
Gordon passed away at the age of seventy-one on Friday, October 28, 1988, in Villa Park, Du Page County, Illinois. He is interred at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, Cook County, Illinois.
