Biography

Between 1832 and 1852, Peter Schell and Esther "Hettie" Reich had 14 children. Schell males in this lineage are predicted to carry the Y-DNA haplogroup J-M241, also known as j2b2. Indeed, two living descendants (one via Isaac, one via Samuel) are predicted by 23&Me and by CladeFinder to have the same J-M241 haplogroup.

Peter Schell was a farmer in North Heidelberg township, where he died when 43 years of age, and was buried at Little Tulpehocken Church, of which he was a Lutheran member. His wife was Esther Reich, and their children were as follows: John, William, Isaac, Samuel, Amelia (m. James McCalister), Edward, Joshua, Alfred, Reuben, Levi, and Sarah (who went with James Wilhelm, her uncle, to Perry, Dallas Co Iowa and there married a Mr. Oliver).[1]

Peter Schell died in 1854.

1860 Census shows Peter's widow Esther 49y, living in North Heidelberg Twp, Berks County. Son Isaac 24y, son Samuel 21y, son Alfred 13y, son Reuben 11y, son Edward 10y, daughter Sarah 8y, John (son?) 1y.
