Biography

Cornelius Schellinger was born sometime between 1658[1] and 1668[2] in East Hampton, Suffolk, New York. His wife, Lydia Talmage, died circa 1715 in Cape May, NJ. Children:

  1. Cornelius, Jr. 1692-1749, m. Mary Stites, daughter of Henry and Hannah Garlick Stites, in June 1715 at Cape May, NJ. They had the following children: Mary, Cornelius III, Lydia, Henry, Enos, Daniel and Hannah.
  2. Abraham 1710-1759,
  3. Daniel 1712-1744
  4. William 1712-1744
  5. Lydia 1714-1764

Cornelius re-married Abigail Pain of East Hampton in Aug 1717 in that village. Cornelius Schellinger died 4 March 1743 in Cape May, NJ. Find A Grave [3]

Cornelius removed to NJ as early as 1691, headed to Elizabethtown. Sold Land 1729. Died Cold Spring, Schellinger's Landing. The Early Germans of New Jersey; Their History, Churches and Genealogies CHAPTER XXVI. SPRUCE RUN8SWAKE-CLARKSVILLE LUTHERAN CHURCHES. [4]

Will: - 1742, March 4. Schilinx. Cornelius, of Cape May Co., yeoman-; wife, Abigail, exe. Sons: Cornelius and Abraham; "William, to have all my lands within the County, joining land in possession of my son Cornelius on one side and lands of Barnabas Crowell, Joshua Stites and John Bradner on the other side; also the privilege my heirs have of having our grain ground toll free at the grist mill on Cold Spring Creek. Wits Aaron Learning, William Barlow, Elisha Crowell. Proved 30 May, 1743. Cape May "Wills, 112 E. 1743, March 3. Inventory, £92.14.1 made by Ebenr. Swaine, Elijah Hughes. [5] Same source lists will abstract for a William S dated 2 March 1744 wife Josena, Underage dau. Left land to his bro Abm. Proved 30 March, 1748. Cape May Wills, 139 E. Same source lists will abstract for a Cornelius S 1746. April 14. wife Mary (nee Stites), sons Henry, Cornelius, Enos, Daniel, Daus. Mary (Richard who d 1759) Stillwell, Lydia and Hannah Schillinex. Proved May 1746.
