Lucia A (Schipp) Stewart was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Lucia A (Schipp) Stewart has German Roots.
Lucia A (Schipp) Stewart has Irish ancestors.

Lucy Schipp was born on January 30, 1892 in or near Maclean, Clarence River, in northern New South Wales. She was one of ten children born to Joseph Schipp (~1855–1950) and Bridget Ryan (1861– 1901) who lived at Palmers Island and later Palmers Channel and James Creek. Her father was born in the Colony to German parents. Her mother was of Irish descent. Her birth was registered in Maclean.[1][2]

Her mother Bridget died of consumption in 1901 at the age of 38 when Lucy was about 9 years old.[3] Lucy's father did not remarry and raised his seven surviving children alone with the assistance of others.

In 1913, Lucy was registered to vote at Palmer's Channel. She was probably still living at home with her father and siblings. The Electoral Register shows her occupation as "domestic duties"; she was probably helping in the family home and on the family property.[4]

By 1916, Lucy had left the Clarence and moved south. She married Leslie Clive Stewart (abt.1890-1974) on January 6, 1916. Born in 1890 in the Central Cumberland district (greater Sydney), he was a son of Thomas Stewart (abt.1859-1937) and Rose (Aplin) Stewart (abt.1862-1949) who lived in Auburn, New South Wales, then a relatively new town located on the train line between Sydney and Parramatta, about 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. Lucy had family living in Auburn and the couple was possibly introduced by them.[5] Their marriage was registered in Lithgow, a town in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, west of Sydney. Presumably, they were married in or near Lithgow. Perhaps, they were working in the district?[6]

After their marriage, the couple settled in Auburn not far from Leslie's parents. Leslie and Lucy had four children, all born in Auburn. Only two survived childhood.

  • Ailsa S Stewart (born 12 Nov 1916, Auburn;[7] died 3 Dec 1916, Auburn)[8]
  • Bruce Gregory Stewart (born 10 May 1919, Auburn; died 25 Jan 1992)
  • Lance Aubrey Stewart (birth registered 1921, Auburn;[9] died 16 Oct 2016, late of Five Dock)
  • Iris Stewart (died 18 May 1924, Auburn)[10]

Lucy and Leslie remained in Auburn for most, if not all, their married life. Between 1933 and 1943, they lived at 16 Park Road, Auburn.[11][12]

Lucy died at their home at 16 Park Road, Auburn on November 25, 1943 aged 51 years.[13] Her death was registered in Auburn under the name "Lucy Honora Stewart".[14] She was buried in Rookwood Catholic Cemetery alongside her younger brother Albert John Schipp (abt.1898-1942). Their names and death dates are inscribed on a gravemarker which they share.[15]
