Early Years

Michael Martin Schipp was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Martin Schipp was born on 12 Jun 1880, probably in or near Maclean in northern New South Wales (where his birth was registered). He was the second son and fourth child of Ferdinand Frederick Schipp and his wife Catherine (born Nolan).[1][2][3][4] He became known as Michael or Michael Martin Schipp.

Marriage

He married Mary Ellen Mulqueeney (abt.1886-1965), eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Denis Mulqueeney in St. Brendan's R.C. Church, Annandale, a suburb west Sydney, on Saturday, 2 Feb 1907.[3][5]

SCHIPP—MULQUEENEY.
A very pretty but quiet wedding was celebrated on Saturday, 2nd February, 1907 in St. Brendan's R.C. Church, Annandale, Sydney, by the Rev Father Rohan, when Martin Schipp, second eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Schipp, of Palmer's Channel, Clarence River, and Miss Ellen Mulqueeney, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Denis Mulqueeney, of Annandale, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away. She looked neat and charming being nicely attired in cream voile, trimmed with Brussels net and bodialas, with hat to match. She carried a lovely showered bouquet and wore a gold muff chain with cross pendant, the gift of the bridegroom. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Annie Mulqueeney, as bridesmaid, who was neatly attired in cream voile trimmed with Valenciennes lace and hat to match, and wore a gold muff chain with a cross pendant, being the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Denis Mulqueeney acted as best man. After the ceremony the happy couple drove from the church amid showers of rice and good wishes to the bride's residence, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast was laid. After justice had been done to the "good things" the toast of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Mr. J. Robertson, who in a very appropriate speech referred to the sterling qualities of the bride with whom he had been long associated and wished them both every success and prosperity in their future career. The bridegroom suitably responded on behalf of himself and the bride. The toast of the parents to the bride and bridegroom was proposed and responded to. The wedding presents were numerous and costly. The happy couple left by the Kyogle the same day on their honeymoon for the Clarence, where they are to reside.

By 1922, he and wife Ellen had returned to Sydney and were living at 145A Nelson-street, Annandale where he was a member of St. Brendan's Branch of the A.H.C. Guild.[2][6] Ellen's parents (Denis and Annie Mulqueeney) lived on the same street at No. 59.[7]

Death

Martin passed away in Sydney, aged 41 years, on 31 Oct 1922 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery (Catholic Section, Sect. M2 Row 2 Plot 1072) together with his wife Nell (died 17 May 1965) and son Michael (died 3 July 1983).[4][2][6][8]
