Christopher SLAGEL had left Saxony prior to 1700, because he was residing in Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1700. By 1705, he was living in New Castle County, Delaware near Red Lion Creek. During the the 1720's & 30's, he bought & sold considerable tracts of land in Delaware. By 1728, he sold off his Delaware lands and moved up the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania and settled near the headwaters of Conewago Creek in what is now Adams County. In his lifetime he owned thousands of acres of land in Delaware, Pennsylvania, & Maryland.

Christopher SLAGEL came from a family of Lutheran Pastors and teachers. He seems to have been associated with the Pietist movement within the Lutheran Church and perhaps came to this country to seek greater freedom to pursue & practice the tenents of this group. Remaining celibate for eighteen years while in this country was consistent with the Pietist teachings. If Individualism was a Pietist tenent vs. Community, Christopher & associates probably revelled in the frontier nature of Delaware & Pennsylvania in the early 1700s.

Christopher is mentioned in son's, Jacob, 1776 York County deeds in which Christopher is mentioned as having received in 1747 from the Province of Pennsylvania tracts of land in Berwick Twp., York County PA which in 1754 he gave to Jacob 100 acres of the 501 acres of land. Sons, Daniel & Henry, were granted Letters of Administration for the Estate of their father on 27APRIL1772 by York County. On 24APR1772, his wife, Mary, signed with her mark 'X' a letter giving up her right to administer Christopher's estate to sons: Daniel & Henry. On 24APR1750, 'Christofel' SLEGLE, Daniel SLEGLE, Robet OWINGS, Staffel SLEGEL, Jacob SLEGEL, & others, petitioned from Paradise Twp. to the York County PA Courts that the mill on Connawago Creek be required to put a floodgate in the dam to allow fish up the river.

Some land records reveal: ..1744: As ‘Stofil' SLEAGLE he purchased on 13JUL, 108 acres called ‘Half Moon' in Prince George's(now Carroll) Co. MD(PT2/176). ..1746: As Christopher ‘SLEAGLE' he purchased on 07FEB, 112 acres called ‘Empty Cupboard' in Prince George's(now Carroll) County MD.(PT2/176) ..1751: Christopher sold on November 2 to son-in-law, George Clapsaddle, in Frederick Co. MD land in what is now Northern Carroll County, Maryland along Bear Creek between Big & Little Pipe Creek, just six miles South of the Pennsylvania border. George CLAPSADDLE paid £5. (Bk B,468)

Not to split heirs, here, but the "Palatine" designation is no indication of POB. I'm sure that more than one person from Sachsen was in the group that emigrated from the Palatinate.

Category "Palatine Migrants" is not appropriate here as Saxony is a totally different area of Germany.

Schlegel-532 and Slagel-27 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse, same DOB and DOD.

Slagle-297 and Schlegel-110 appear to represent the same person because: Think these two can merge, too...
