Johan Adam Schlemmer was born to Jean Pierre Schlemmer Jean Pierre Schlemmer and his first wife Catharine Barbara Saling (Sali, Salling) Catharine Barbara Sali on April 11, 1833, high in the mountains in Erckartsviller, Alsace Lorraine, France. He was their eighth son in addition to three female siblings. Three of the children died young in France. The family immigrated through Stark County, Ohio, in 1834. John Adam lived there for about a year and his youngest sister was born there. He moved with his family to Monroe Township, Allen County, Indiana, in 1839. His mother died in 1842 and his father remarried on January 3, 1843. His step-mother died in 1846. As late as 1850 he lived with his father, sister Katharina Katharina Schlemmer , and half-brother Christopher Christopher Schlemmer who was the son of his step-mother Catharine nee Youse Catharine Monar Sophie Sophie Schlemmer, his older sister, had taken his half-brother Christopher and raised him in Missouri. His younger sister, Katharina Maria, married Conrad Jackemeyer Conrad Jackemeyer, Sr. in 1854, so Johan Adam must have lived with only his father for several years. He died of some contagious disease around the same time as his father, Jean Pierre Schlemmer, passed away around 1859 or 1860. He is buried in Schlemmer Cemetery.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Adam by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Adam:
