Frederick VIII, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein (of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg) was the German pretender to the throne of Schleswig-Holstein from 1863, although in reality Prussia took over lordship and real administrative power.
In 1856 he married Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, a niece of Queen Victoria, and they had seven children. He was the father of Augusta Victoria, the last German Empress, consort of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
He died on 14 January 1880.
