In 1910 she was working as a domestic servant in Rockford in the home of S.C. Andrus. [2]
In 1920 she lived with her siblings and widowed mother in Rockford. Both she and her sisters Elsie, Ida and Marie all worked in a knitting factory. In. 1930 she was still working at the factory.
Bertha H. Schmidt died at 7:40 am Friday in her home after a brief illness.
Miss Schmidt, a native of Germany, had spent most of her life in Loves Park, before moving to Rockford last year.
Survivors include five sisters, Mrs Anna Henning, Mrs. Martha Knop, Mrs. Ida Brockman, and Mrs. Elsie Joesten, all of Rockford, and Mrs Sam Wicker of Loves Park and one brother, Herman Schmidt, Belvidere.
Services will be at 1:30 pm
Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, with burial at Guilford Union Cemetery.
