Obituary

Excerpt from Christian messenger obituary: 1940 Aug 27 p. 14 [1] Maria Schmidt Unruh died on July 23, at the age of 77. She was born on June 12, 1863 in southern Russia in the village of Alexanderwohl, daughter of Jakob and Elizabeth Schmidt. When she was 4 years old, her parents moved to the village of Mariawohl where they lived until they emigrated to Emmenthal north of Newton, Kansas in 1874. On December 4, 1881 she was baptized by Aeltester Jakob Buller and admitted to the Alexanderwohl community. On April 10, 1883 [sic] married David Unruh. They could live together until 1924 when her husband died. Since then she has had her home with her children. She was the mother of seven children who are still alive and mourning their death.

Biography

She married David Unruh[1] on April 10, 1883, in Marion, Kansas. She died on July 27, 1940, in Goessel, Kansas, at the age of 77, and was buried in Tabor Mennonite Church [2]Cemetery at Goessel.
