Anna Schmidt was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States with her parents and siblings in 1885.
In 1896 she married Jacob B. Schmidt of Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She served the Bergthal Mennonite Church alongside her husband who was the pastor for many years.
They had four children – two sets of twins – and adopted their nephew, Fred Schmidt, whose mother died when he was born.
