"Tilman Schmith of Ernsdorf, b. probably ca. 1530, d. at Ernsdorf in 1584, being buried there Mar. 30, 1584. As the name Kemper first appears definitely in the family with Tilman's son, Friedrich Schmith or Kemper of Muesen, Mr. Schutte suggests the possibility that Tilman Schmith may have been a member of a very old fa,ily of blacksmiths at Littfeld, which for many years was known both as Schmidt and as Kemper; and that Tillman may have married into the Schmidt family at Ernsdorf, being a son-in-law rather than a son of Jacob Schmit above. This is possible, of course, but uncertain. In the special tax list of 1563 Tilman Schmith and his wife Elsa are shown at Ernsdorf with a family of six children, indicating that they were married around the year 1550. The special tax list of 1572 shows "Dilman Schmidt" of Ernsdorf along with his brother-in-law, Hans Limper of Hilchenbach, which perhaps indicates that Tilman's wife Elsa, was a Limper and that Tilman was a son of Jacob Schmit, not a son-in-law. The Ferndorf church books show that four of Tilman Schmith's children married between 1592 and 1602."[1]
