In Johann Michael Schmitt's own words "1714. The 7th of March I, Johann Michael Schmitt, was born into the world; my father was Georg Schmitt of Neustatten in the land of Ansbach, where he was magistrate; my mother was Margaretha Schmitt of Tauberzell".
Johann Michael Schmitt had in his possession, and brought to Nova Scotia, the Bible originally belonging to his wife's first husband, Georg Hertell (d.1737). This Bible is now known as the Schmitt-Heckman-Burgess Bible and contains 23 pages of 18th Century German script, almost all written in the same hand. This diary is attributed to J. Michael Schmitt. (see source below)
He arrived in Halifax aboard the Gale on August 26, 1752. The manifest shows:
By 1760, Johann Michael "Michael" Schmitt/Schmidt purchased or was granted land in the peninsula that became known as "Five Houses" on the LaHave River [2] The land was in the 30 Acre Farm Lot Grants, Township of Lunenburg.
He was living at Five Houses when recorded in the 1792 Poll Tax Records. In 1793, the Poll Tax Records show Michael as a widower and his son Thomas, farmer, is recorded immediately beneath him.
Michael passed away at Five Houses on the LaHave. His son Thomas recorded in the family bible "1798 - 9th of June - my father John Michael passed away, having reached the age of 84 years 3 months and 2 days and was buried on the 11th in Oakwood Cemetery".

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Michael by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Michael:
Colonists of New England and Nova Scotia: Burgess and Heckman families by K.F. Burgess is a strong and interesting source. I apologize for my poor formatting when it comes to sources and as time permits, will try to pull the sources I've added into "compliance". Thank you for your patience!
Schmidt-5200 and Schmitt-2097 appear to represent the same person because: The surname is spelled both ways in records and pronounced the same. DOB, marriage, spouse, locations, DOD and two shared children in the profiles lead me to believe there is no reasonable doubt these two profiles represent the same person.
I can add more sources after the merge is considered. Thank you.
