Research Notes
Christina Schmidt was born just months after the 1775 census was taken, and married before the 1798 census, so she doesn't appear in a census record with her biological parents.
I've reviewed the Schmidt families who lived in Grimm at the time of the 1775 census.
Michael and Dorotea Schmidt, family #36
Dorotea was 49 years old in 1776, probably too old to continue to have children.
Johann Georg and Katharina Elisabeth Schmidt, family #35
He was 27 and his wife was 30; definitely could be Christina's parents.
Herman and Katharina Schmidt, family #148
He was 38 and she was 21; definitely could be Christina's parents.
Samuel and Anna Margareta Schmidt, family #162
He was 36 and she was 21; definitely could be Christina's parents.
I've eliminated Michael and Dorotea Schmidt as possible parents for Christina because of Dorotea's age at the time of Christina's birth.
In 1775, the Rusch family was #107 in the census. In terms of proximity, Herman and Katharina Schmidt lived the closest to the Rusches.
In 1798, there were five Schmidts living in Grimm. One of them, Johannes Schmidt, can be eliminated as Christina's father because he was too young. The other four are possible matches, but only Herman Schmidt and his wife Katharina Merkel lived reasonably close to the Rusch family, the Schmidts as family #85 and the Rusches as family #93. The others were families #4, #21, and #38.
