Barbara Schmitt (nee Schmitt) emigrated from Prussia (Germany) with her husband Franz and their daughter Anna Maria, age 1 year. They arrived at Port of New York on 24 July 1843 aboard the ship Marie. Franz drowned in the Nippersink Creek in Spring Grove on 25 January 1845, one month before the birth of his son Frank, born 28 February 1845 per bio in McHenry County history book ****** OR may have drowned in 'Mill Pond', in Spring Grove, per wife's obit in McHenry Plaindealer newspaper. Barbara later married Peter Schaefer
