Biography

Nicholas Lee Schmitt was born on March 23, 1973, at Lincoln County Memorial Hospital in Troy, Missouri, to Peggy Sue Gifford, age 21, and Kenneth Alexander Schmitt, age 25. In 1978, he begn attending school in the Lincoln County R_IV School District in Winfield, MO. In 7th and 8th grade,Nick played basketabll and ran track for Winfield Middle School. In High School, Nick played soccer all 4 years, ran track Freshman through Junior years, and played basketball Freshman and Senior years. During his Sophomore and Junior years, Nick played on a select soccer team that played in leagues in St. Louis, MO. In 1990, he began working as a scorekeeper, referee, and umpire for basketball, soccer, and baseball for the St. Charles County YMCA (various periods 1990-1994). June-July 1990, Nick attended the Presidential Pre-College Program at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO and earned 8 hours of college credit. During his Senior year of high school, Nick earned 6 hours of college credit through dual enrollment with Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. In May 1991, Nick graduated from Winfield High School, with an honors diploma. He enrolled in Southwest Missouri State University in August of 1996, graduating in May 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in History.

During the Summers of 1993-1995, Nick worked as a day camp counselor at the St. Charles County YMCA. SPring of 1994, Nick served as a student aid at the Bailey Alternative School in Springfield, MO. Oct 1994-May 1995,Nick worked as a part-time before and after school childcare worker for the Springfield, MO YMCA. January-March 1996, Nick spent 8 weeks completing his student teaching at Mount Vernon Middle School in Mount Vernon, MO. March-May 1996, Nick spent 8 weeks completing his student teaching at Marshfield High School in Marshfield, MO.

August of 1996, Nick began working for West Plains High School as a Social Studies teacher, assistant boys soccer coach, and assistant track coach. Nick married Elizabeth Faye Warren in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, on March 17, 1997. In August 1997,Nick became Head Boys Soccer Coach (Fall 1997-Present) and Head Girls Soccer Coach (17 Seasons, Spring 1998-Spring 2014) at West Plains High School. February 20, 1998, Nick's son Devin McKay Schmitt was born at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, MO. In December 1998, Nick was named Missouri Class 4A District 11 Coach of the Year in boys soccer. Also in December 1998, Nick attended the inaugural meeting of the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association in Columbia, MO. He has been a member of the MSHSSCA since 1998 and has served as a Regional Representative on several occasions.July 9, 1999,Nick's daughter Andrea Nicole Schmitt was born at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, MO.

October 1999- March 2003, Nick served as Freshman Girls Basketball Coach at West Plains High School, working under Scott Womack. December 2000, Nick was named Missouri Class 4A District 11 Coach of the Year in boys soccer. In June 2001, Nick began graduate school online through the University of Missouri-Columbia, pursuing a Master of Education degree.

In May 2003, Nick was named Missouri Class 2 District 11 Coach of the Year in girls soccer. December 2003, Nick graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Social Studies. May 2004, Nick began working as a lifeguard/Pool Manager at West Plains Aquatic Center (Summers 2004-2013). In 2013, he served as Co-Director of West Plains Aquatic Center.

November 10-11, 2006, Nick coached West Plains High School Soccer Team at the Missouri Class 2 State Championships. Lost in the semi-final 2-0 to Cape Girardeau Notre Dame. Defeated Hannibal 3-0 in the Third Place Game.

In December 2006, Nick was named Missouri Class 2 Boys Western and Southwest Regional Coach of the Year, Missouri Class 2 Boys State Co-Coach of the Year along with Brad Wittenborn of Cape Girardeau Notre Dame, and National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II State Coach of the Year for Missouri.

Nick and Elizabeth Faye Warren were divorced on March 25, 2013, in West Plains, Missouri.

Nick married Amy Lea Bunch at the Baxter County Courthouse in Mountain Home, Arkansas, on October 18, 2013.

In August 2014, Nick began graduate school online through Arkansas State University, pursuing an Educational Specialist Degree.

In August 2014, became Assistant Girls Soccer Coach (Spring 2015) at West Plains High School after serving the previous 17 seasons as Head Girls Soccer Coach.

On February 14, 2015, Nick's daughter Rayechel (Raye) Eva Schmitt was born at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

December 2015, Nick graduated from Arkansas State University with a Specialist in Education degree in Education Leadership - Principalship Track.
