Descendant of Jacob Schmitt. Carl "Charlie" is a paternal grandson of Jacob Schmitt, who was one of three founders of Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois in August 1841, along with Nicholas Adams and Nicholas Frett.

Carl was the son of Nicholas Schmitt and Maria Meiler. He passed away in 1896 at the age of 13 years
