Biography

Anna Catharina (Schneider) Hammen was born either January 23, 1693 or December 31, 1692 (as someone just added w/out a source) in Rhaunen, Bernkastel, Rhineland, Prussia, Germany to parents Johann Dieterich Schneider (~1670 - 1719) and Anna Maria Maria Dünschmann (1664 - 1720) .
Anna married Hans Michael Hamen on October 24, 1702 in Baumholder, Sankt Wendel, Rhineland, Prussia. Their daughter Maria Eva (Hamen) Braun was baptised in Baumholder, Prussia on April 28, 1710. [1]
Anna died may have died about 1710 in Ruschberg, Sankt Wendel, Rhineland, Prussia which is the same time Maria was born, possibly indicating death from childbirth complications. However there is another date of 1745 given on the FamilySearch site which also includes other children for the couple. That said I have written everything in the Notes section below and I am working to find the correct information for the different families.

Notes

This is one of my 8th great grandmothers and I only recently adopted her unsourced and nearly blank, "orphaned" profile (June 26, 2021). It seems there are ongoing misunderstandings or misinformation exchanged involving facts about the lives of two or more women named Anna Catherina Schneider / Snyder. On FamilySearch the profile gives a much wider life span and at least 8 children to the union of our Anna and husband Michael Hammen. There is also the question about siblings as many duplicates are linked to the parents' profiles including another Anna / Ana Catherina born the same year (1693) but with a second husband "Launhart". I have been trying to sort out the differences but just now found several new (public) family tree websites combining all of the information despite the obvious conflicts. Unfortunately the only source given on those sites are these wikitree profiles. For this reason (especially) I am giving this profile extra attention and am hoping to clear some facts. I welcome posts and messages with any info/sources but PLEASE DO NOT change the birth nor death dates. I have noted there are two of each floating about and we can't progress with her profile if these are changed with no proof given.
This is the list of her siblings according to the parents profiles- but clearly there is an issue with at least one, the "would be twin" born of the same name and year but she immigrated to the States where she married a different man and eventually passed away in New York.
Another thing to note are the life spans given for them as they are most likely all mixed up too. For example; Anna Elisabetha Schneider lived from 1685 until 1880- this nearly 200 year old woman would be famous and yet she isn't.
  1. Johann Wilhelm Schneider (1680 - 1728)
  2. Anna Elisabetha Schneider (<1685 - 1880)
  3. Maria Catharina Schneider (1688 - 1757)
  4. Johann Wilhelm Schneider (1690 - <1768)
  5. Anna Catharina (Schneider) Launhart (1693 - )
  6. Johann Anthonius Schneider (1695 - 1695)
  7. Johann Anthonius Schneider (~1697 - )
  8. Anna Gertraud Schneider (1701 - 1740)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Anna by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Anna:

Schneider-9743 and Schneider-326 do not represent the same person because: I have searched and can't find evidence of their being another marriage for this Schneider to a Launhart. Also she didn't come to the states where the Launhart profile has a marriage and death occurring in New York. Someone copied and pasted a list of siblings from a public online family tree then added them to the recently adopted Hammen profile I have been working on but no sources were given. This is the only place I've seen the name Anna Catherina Schneider Launhart and she is listed as a sibling with the exact dates as the other, suggesting they were twins - while possible, it is highly unlikely surviving twins would've been given the exact same name; more importantly, there are no records to confirm it. If someone can show evidence, of course I want the profile to be accurate but for now I'm setting as these as "rejected matches" and erasing the recent addition of this twin to the biography.

It looks like this person is attached to wrong parents with wrong birth date. There are good sources here, but they show that she married in 1702, which makes a 1693 birth date impossible. Nine year olds did not have church weddings! :-)

And her marriage record shows that her father was Wilhelm Schneiders not Johann Dieterich.

Schneider-9743 and Schneider-326 appear to represent the same person because: same name and family

Do you have any supporting evidence for the last name Launhart? I am thinking it could be a mix up with one of her sisters Mary Cathrina or Anna Elisabetha? I adopted this profile recently and just sourced some more easily accessible docs with her name as Schneider marrying Hammen as well as the Baptisms and two marriages of their children but haven't found death certs for her or Hans Michel yet. I'd prefer waiting until we have that information but am definitely open and looking in to it. Thank you for posting this! Cheers! Becky Elizabeth

I was just working down a list of proposed merges and came upon the merge for Johann, the father of the duplicate for Anna and proposed this merge. The source on the profile for her, says the marriage record is on Family Search, but I did not look at it. I did look at the death date of her 1st husband, and the time span before her 2nd marriage.

I looked at the other profile and couldn't find any sources at all but did read where someone typed "marriage on familysearch". The only problem with that isnI sourced this profile from familysearch and there isn't anyone with that last name attached to the profile. I am definitely looking at it because I too have been (and still am) one to suggest profile merges and always feel slighted when ignored or brushed off...I just want to uphold the rules with regard to sourcing nd proper notation here because having an additional husband and last name is a big deal. It could mean changing parentage for children and more...plus I found issues with dates on some other profiles like their mother having two husband's- one of which has a marriage date after the husband's listed date of death- so you can see there is work to be done in a few areas. There are other profile managers as well who will see the proposal and messages and will weigh in heir thoughts and research. These are my 11th and 12th great grandparents by the way, are we cousins? Have you uploaded your DNA yet? Talk Soon :) Becky
