Biography

Children: Anna Catharina (1706), Hartman (1707), Johannes (1709, all in Hochheim, Hesse, Germany), Johann Samuel (1714 NY), Conrad (1717 Rheinbeck, Dutchess, NY), Susanna (1720 Hunterstown).

Johann Heinrich Schneider was one of the Palatines who came to America in 1709 with his wife, his children and his grandfather.

On Sept 10 1714 Johann Samuel Schneider was baptized as Saint Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Camp, Ulster, New York by his father Henrich Schneider and his mother Anna. On April 2 1720 Susanna Schneider waas baptized in Hunter Township, Greene, New York by her parents Henrich Schneider and Anna. These records are definitely from our Johann Henrich and Anna. One genealogy calls him Johann Henricus Bitzer. While highly unlikely, it may give another avenue to search for our Johann Henrich's family.

Jones (1985) identifies Heinrich as person #678 on the Hunter Lists of Palatine immigrants (p. 896ff). He identifies Heinrich’s father as Johannes the younger and his grandfather, with whom he emigrated, as Johannes the old (pp. 897 and 902). They arrived on the ship James and Elizabeth on June 16 1710.

Jones gives this marriage date, but without a place (p. 897).

Dod evidently from Germantown Church book (Jones 897).

One genealogy gives Johann Henrich's birth place as Melchnau, Bern, Switzerland. This was apparently listed in the Palatine Project, 1710, sixth list. There is a baptism record for Hanss Heinrich Schneider to Melcher Schneider and Elsbeth Wordtmüller in Belp, Bern on May 17 1675. It seems he was baptized in Belp on Dec 3 1637 to Moritz Schnyder, not Johannes, so this is likely not our Hanss Heinrich.
