Biography

William Schneider has German Roots.

Johann Wilhelm Schneider was born on 8 Dec 1883 in Remagen, Germany.[1] He was the son of Carl Joseph Schneider and Christina Nagel .[2] He was baptized on 16 December 1883 at St. Peter und Paul in Remagen.[3] The baptismal sponsors were Johann Wilhelm Schneider (J. Nagel as substitute) and Agnes Schmitz from Kendenich.[4]

He left Remagen with his family in 1892.[5] After he arrived in St. Louis, Missouri, he was called William J. Schneider.

He became a citizen of the United States on 18 February 1898, when his father was naturalized.[6]

When William was sixteen, he worked as a candy manufacturing pan man.[7] He then became a policeman. He taught jiu jitsu and wrestling to the police force.[8][9] He was one of the first motorcycle patrolmen in St. Louis, Missouri.[10] Around 1915-1916, he was knocked off his motorcycle and injured.[11] He went to work as a machinist at a brick company, [12] Fernholtz Machine Co.[13] He then returned to the police force and walked a beat bounded by Sixth Street, Twelfth Boulevard, Chouteau Avenue, and Poplar Street, which included the western end of MacArthur Bridge.[14] He left the police department on 1 December 1943.[15] He then worked as a guard at the Manufacturers' Bank and Trust Co. in St. Louis.[16]

William was married to Myrtle Milam.[17]

He was a state lightweight wrestling champion.[18] He wrestled at the Standard Theater.[19]

William died on 27 June 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri.[20][21][22] He was buried at Sunset Burial Park.[23][24][25][26]
