As a child, Debi was athletic and broke her left hip in 1961. After numerous operations, the consensus was to surgically fuse the hip (arthrodesis). Other operations followed due to apparent shortening of the leg and pain. The last operation was in 1976. While she was married to Michael Mickunas, she completed education for registered nurse with an associate degree from Jefferson College in 1980. She completed a baccalaureate degree at University of Missouri in nursing in 1993 and worked as a nurse until she retired in 2013. Due to the unusual circumstances of her orthopedic situation and having worked in a physically strenuous field, Debi donated her remains to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Debi, Welcome! I'm in the Schneider Project because of my paternal grandmother's German line, which rooted in the area around Karlsruhe (Hesse), De. My Schneiders seem to come from another province though. I'm at Berg-1880, if you'd want to look. It's a thoroughly public tree.

And just a little prod here, when you begin to list your tree members, be sure to put a source of information or a citation with each item. Wikitree wants the grand tree to be well sourced (which I did not assume at first and I'm still trying to fix that!)

Hi Deborah,

Welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

We're really glad you're here!
