Research Notes
Joe's parents are listed on marriage record (FamilySearch Index of marriage record without image) as John Schneider and Catherine Haberman. Joe is listed as J. J. Schneider and birthplace is given as Nebraska. Edna's parents are listed as W. O. Thompson and Alice Paige
Another marriage record found on FamilySearch differs a bit. It says Joseph Schneider, son of John Schneider and Catherine Haberman, married Leone Thompson, daughter of W. O. Thompson and Alice Paige married in Shelby, Iowa on 8 Sep 1923.[3] The other record was used to cite the marriage because the marriage date and place matched the data already on this profile prior to sourcing. It is also entirely possible this is a record for a sibling of Joe marrying a sibling of Edna. Census records show two brothers in family, John born in 1898 and Joseph born 1899
FindAGrave memorial gives birth place as Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia and death place as York, Nebraska. However, there is no source cited for this information. There is an image of the gravestone with the matching name and dates. The gravestone does have Joe and Edna's marriage date of 24 May 1924 engraved on it.
Census entries say birthplace was Russia
WWI draft registration card has an Americanized name, Joe Allen Schneider, but the correct birth date and known residence of York, Nebraska (see census entries below from York, Nebraska). The available image says he was a citizen by virtue of his father's naturalization before his majority.
obituary index has image available to read, birth place not mentioned but some family names are.
Joe's mother Catherine's obituary (in German, not translated) says she was born in Balzer, Russia (geboren Balzer, Rusland) on 3 May 1877, married Johannes Schneider in 1896 and they moved to York, Nebraska, United States in 1903.[4]
