Biography

OBITUARY: Elsie Genevieve Schneider Schroll was born eldest of three sisters to William Schneider and Eva Kucher Schneider in Jersey City, NJ, on August 28, 1920. She passed to her heavenly home and the arms of Jesus on December 26, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. Elsie's passions from a young age were reading, writing, music, dancing and chocolate!! Her unrealized dream was to be a concert pianist, and she had a special touch on the piano. She met her future husband, Oscar Milton Schroll, at a USO dance—where she served as president of the organization-- during WWII, while he was attending Naval Officers' Training at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. They married shortly thereafter in March of 1945, with her youngest sister, Ruth, serving as bridesmaid. Married life took them to San Francisco, where her son, Larry Craig, was born; Cincinnati; and Albuquerque. Two babies went to heaven before her youngest, Karen Elaine, was born. Elsie's career was as a kind, and generous homemaker—her skills as cook were appreciated by many! She served her Lord and church in many capacities, including as a Sunday School teacher, as well as lending her angelic soprano voice to the choir. A member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque since 1959, she served as Ruling Elder, delegate to Presbytery and Synod, Presbyterian President, and chair of a pastor nominating committee. She had several dear friends in the church with whom she shared joys, tears, and prayers. With a heart of fondness for "critters", through the years Elsie cared for various dogs, cats, birds, and fish. Her faith kept her going through life. Even in her final years, when Alzheimer's took its toll, she offered blessings to those around her, who were captivated by her sweet spirit. Elsie joins her husband in heaven; as well as her parents; her sister, Irene; and her children, Larry, David, and Mary. Also she was preceded by her brother-in-law, Don. She is survived by her sister, Ruth; daughter, Elaine Sheldon (Garrett); grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Peter; brother-in-law Ross; nephews, Bill and Scott Patterson; and niece, Lynn Markert, with their families; surrogate daughter, Casey Crouch; and many friends at church, Brookdale Valencia, and A Love for Life Assisted Living. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, January 1, 2017, 3:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church Albuquerque, 9315 Candelaria Road NE.
