In 1949 he came to Hinton and started mining with Emma Nickerson at Coal Creek. The following year, he found a coal vein, south of Hinton, near the present nuisance ground. Hubert and Carl Urban operated this mine for two years, then took in a third partner, Cliff Woodley. In 1953 Schnur's mine closed.
