YOUNG PEOPLE DIE NEAR DRUMMOND; ANACONDAN INJURED.

Drummond, Mont. (AP) - Five persons were injured fatally Friday night in a car-panel truck collision one mile east of Drummond. Acting Coroner Woodrow Wilson said four of the persons were killed outright in the 6 p.m. accident on U.S. Highway 10. The fifth, identified as RALPH BENNER, about 18, of Ronan, died a few minutes after arrival at a Deer Lodge hospital, the hospital said. The other dead were identified by a Philipsburg funeral home as YVONNE KNUTSON, about 22, of Centerville, S.D.; JANLEE SCHOEN, about 22, of Hardin; JERRY L. EDWARDS, 24, of Glasgow; and THEODORE GALE NORMAN, of St. Ignatius who would have been 21 years old next Thursday. The acting coroner said there would be an inquest into the crash. A check of school records showed NORMAN and EDWARDS were students at Eastern Montana College of Education at Billings. MISS SCHOEN and MISS KNUTSON were reported to be Billings Deaconess Hospital students on a 10-week training duty at Warm Springs. Earlier officials had reported erroneously that a Shirley Larson of Aurora, S.D., was fatally injured in the crash. A spokesman at the funeral home said the erroneous report stemmed from a name found on baggage used by MISS KUNTSON. Miss Larson, hearing a report of the accident, appeared at a police station at Anaconda to inform authorities of the mistake in identity. Injured and hospitalized with undetermined injuries was EARL LAWRENCE, 39, Rt. 1, Anaconda. The hospital said he was listed as a truck driver for Roach and Smith, Anaconda. He was believed to be the lone occupant of the truck. Late Friday night, St. Joseph Hospital attendants listed LAWRENCE'S condition as "very critical." He received fractures of both legs and arm injuries in addition to other injuries. It was Montana's worst fatal crash of the young year. The acting coroner said the driver of the eastbound truck apparently was turning off the highway onto a roadside café parking lot when the collision with the westbound sedan occurred. Two of the bodies were thrown from the demolished sedan. Neither vehicle turned over. They came to rest about five feet apart, the acting coroner reported. The deaths raised Montana's 1958 highway traffic fatality toll to 12 compared with five a year ago.
