Rosalie Schoen's father's name may have been Johan. The family lived in Pomerania, near the Baltic Sea, north of Brandenburg--in the 1800s it was part of Prussia--now, part of Pomerania is located in East Germany and in Poland. The Schoen children (including Rosalie) were: Andrew, who married a Lauf Henry, Martin, Daniel, Johan (John), Rosalie, and Caroline. The Schoen family moved to Volyhynia, Russia, perhaps in the 1860s. After they were married, Henry, Daniel, and Rosalie immigrated to the United States in the 1880s and 1890s. Henry settled in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Daniel lived in Winnipeg, Canada, and then on Vashon Island, Washington, and has descendants there. Andrew's daughter, Emelie, immigrated to America and married Adolph Hiersch; they lived on Vashon Island. [See Note in Adolph Lauf's genealogy (his sister married Andrew)] Andrew, Martin, Johan, and Caroline remained in Russia, probably in Volhynia. [8]
