Biography
William Scholes was the youngest child of James & Maria (May) Scholes He was born at Forbes NSW in 1882. William's father James Scholes died in Forbes on 24 April 1884. Following her husband's death Maria Scholes left New South Wales for Victoria with Peter Antonio Lafranchi, taking with them the 3 Scholes children, Margaret, Martha and William . When William died in 1886 his surname was given as Lafranchi, not unusual in these times for a young child to be known or referred to by his mother's new surname especially as he was close in age to the 5 children born to Peter and Maria Lafranchi.
