Louisa emigrated with her parents and siblings in 1857/58 aboard the barque Ohio from Bremen to Port Adelaide, arriving on 3 February 1858.[1]
Her obituary read:
Another of the old settlers died at Murtoa on Saturday in the person of Mrs. Louise Pumpa, aged 71, a highly respected member of the community, who for some years had practised as a nurse. Deceased was only nine years old when she left Germany for South Australia. She married Mr. Martin Pumpa seven years later, and after two years went to New South Wales for ten years, and came to Victoria 45 years ago, living the latter 20 years at Murtoa. She was the mother of 14 children, 12 of whom are still living, including Mrs. E. Nuske and Mrs. W. Sprague, of Morton. One sister (Mrs. Janetzki) still resides at Murtoa. Deceased leaves 53 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The immediate cause of death was bronchial pneumonia and heart failure.[2]
