At the time of Ernestine's birth, records for Knittelsheim and Ottersheim were all filed under Ottersheim. She was actually born in Knittelsheim. Ernestine emigrated to America in 1853 and lived in Philadelphia. Around 1868 she returned to Germany with her husband Karl "Charles" Mathieu. According to her published obituary, Ernestine died in Neulauterburg while visiting her aunt.
