"Melbourne Meyers Schulte, Sr. age 92 a resident of Mount Clemens, Michigan passed away on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2013.
He was born September 27, 1920 in Detroit, MI to the late Elmer and Ella ( nee Wellhausen) Schulte.
On November 15, 1941 in Detroit, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia Reske. Together they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. She preceded her husband in death September 5, 2011.
Mr. Schulte proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After he returned to civilian life, he opened his barber shop, Mel’s Barber Shop on Bradford and Gratiot in Detroit, and ran his business for the next 28 years. Later he was employed by Ford Motor Company in assembly for 11 years. He and his wife Virginia moved to Arizona shortly after he retired from Fords. An active member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Detroit where he served as an usher, and later as residents of Arizona, joining First Christian Church in Sierra Visa, Arizona. Mr. Schulte held memberships in veterans organization in Arizona and in the Mount Clemens area at the American Legion Post #4. He was also a member of the UAW Veterans Local # 2280. Being an all round athlete during his whole life, he played baseball in his younger years and won multiple awards in the Senior Olympics in the areas of volleyball, and baseball in his later years. He was an ardent fan of all sports including football and hockey. Spending time outdoors fishing or hunting was a favorite pastime. His fishing time was on Wednesdays when the barber shop was closed.
Memorial services will be private. Inurnment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan with full military honors."
