In America, he and his wife and two children settled at Sabula, Iowa. Four years later they moved to Tama County, Iowa and located on a farm twelve miles north of Toledo. Here they lived until 1898, when they moved to Sutherland to be near his children.
Apx. 1880 opened a pool hall in Gladbrook, Iowa. Moved to Sutherland to be near his two children, Gustav and Mary.
He died in Sutherland in 1901.
