Biography

Johanne Louise Auguste Wilhelmina Schulz ('Wilhelmina') was born in Stavenhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Deutscher Bund, on 10 April 1842, to Joachim Friedrich Christian Schultz and Sophie Friederike Henriette Louise Sicof [?].[1]

In 1867, she was living in Stavenhagen, Mecklinburg-Schwerin, with her parents, siblings, Johann Hafft (presumably her future husband), and Heinrich Richter. She was a cook.[2]

She married Johann T Hafft.[3] They had seven children:[4][3]

They probably immigrated to the United States on 17 April 1871. Johann, Willie, C [presumably Frederick], and Willie Hafft arrived in New York then on the Westphalia, which had started in Hamburg.[5][6][7][8]

In 1880, she was living at 2813 Leamy Street, Philadelphia, with her children. She was a housekeeper.[3]

In 1900, she was living at 2951 Reese Street, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, which she owned, with no mortage. Her daughter Pauline was living with her family in the house, renting from her mother.[4]

She died on 8 November 1901, in Episcopal Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of uraemia. She was still living at 2951 Reese Street, Philadelphia. She was buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 12 November 1901.[9] The undertaker was George S Rowen.[10][11]

She had personal property worth $200, and owned 2951 North Reese Street, which was worth $1600. Her brother-in-law Christian W Heck was appointed executor. Hermina received $25, August received $50, and Pauline received $50, and the household articles and furniture were divided equally between Hermina and Pauline, with the rest divided equally among the children. The property was held in trust until Pauline turned 21, when it was to be sold and the proceeds divided equally among the children.[12]
