Biography

Elizabeth Frances Schuster was born at Brattleboro Vermont, in or near 1861 (based on the inscription on her gravestone, which also fits her reported age of 58 in the U.S. Census of 1920; however, see Research Notes below). She married physician Edward Thayer Twitchell at Brattleboro in late June of 1887.

Widowed in 1920, she survived her husband by more than three decades, dying at Washington, Connecticut, in 1952; the couple lie next to one another in New Hampshire in Keene's Woodland Cemetery.

Research Notes

Although her gravestone dates her birth to 1861, which matches estimates of her age in census and other records, an immigration record from 1929 which appears to be hers ("Elizabeth F. Twitchell", born at Brattleboro, Vermont) gives an exact birthdate of 6 January 1864.^[1] The typewritten original passenger list also gives a residential address of 4 Bond Street, Cambridge, Mass.^[2]; this could be checked against other records to certify the identification.
