Gertrude was born in Michigan to German immigrants Joseph and Catherine Christman Schwab. She married David Wood in Helena, Montana in 1898.[1]
In 1940 she was widowed and head of a household in San Diego that included her sister Elizabeth Gillan, Elizabeth's daughter Jessamine Connolly, and 5-year old Maureen Connolly.[2]
Getrude passed away in 1962 in San Diego, California.[3] She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.[4]
