Marie "Mari" Katherine Schwab was born in 1885 in Hussenbach, Volga, Russia.
She married John Stenzel in Hussenbach in October of 1906. They came to America in the Spring of 1907 and although they traveled together on the same ship, Marie is not listed on the same page of the ship manifest of her husband.[1] The surname went from Stenzel to Stencel, either due to anti-German sentiment or due to the immigration officials spelling.
They settled in Loveland, Colorado where John was a farm laborer and worked for the sugar factory. They later moved to Weld county, where they farmed in Crow Creek.
Mari and John had nine children together. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1956 with family and friends.[2]
