Biography

Christian F. Schweitzer Jr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Christian Frederick Schweitzer Jr., 72, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Born Nov. 21, 1931, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Christian Frederick and Nellie Slye Schweitzer.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Harolyn Fitzgerald Schweitzer, in 1970.

He was a graduate of Charlotte Hall Military Academy in Chaptico, Md., and attended the University of Maryland on a lacrosse scholarship.

He retired in 1987 from the C&P Telephone Co. after 30 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He attended Independent Bible Church in Martinsburg, and was active in Bible study prior to his move to Martinsburg. He was a member of the Church of Atonement in Silver Spring, Md.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wratten of Chesapeake, Va.; three children from his first marriage, Paul C. Schweitzer and Robert F. Schweitzer, both of Mount Airy, Md., and Jane E. Schweitzer of Plano, Texas; one sister, Jacqueline Matthews of Detour, Md.; two grandsons; five stepchildren; and 13 stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Independent Bible Church, Martinsburg. The Rev. Curt Lowry will officiate.

Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Local arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.[1]
