Michael Schäfer was born in 1832, so he should have been in the 1834 census. For some reason, he was not listed with his family in that document. I've included the source for the 1834 census for verification purposes.

If his birth year was incorrect, however, and actually 1835 or later, that would explain why his name was missing from the 1834 census.
I've added missing Schäfer son Georg Heinrich to this entry to show his relationship to the seven children starting with Child #4. Son Ernst is listed below Georg Heinrich's children. Georg Heinrich's youngest child was born in 1845, so he probably died between 1845 and 1850; his death was listed in the 1850 census. His unnamed wife may have remarried but left her children with their father's family, or she, too, may have been deceased.
