Information from Footnote.com July 2011 - He is listed as Willliam J. Scoggins, W. J. Scogin, William J. Scoggin, W.J. Scogins and W.J. Scroggins. His brother Wiley Scoggins also served in Company K of the 27th Alabama Infantry. W.J. Scogin enlisted November 5, 1862 at Tuscumbia, Alabama by Major McAlexander. He was listed as Wm J. Scoggins on a roll of prisoners of War at Camp Morton, Indiana captured at Champ Hill on May 17, 1863. He was listed as absent from Company K on July-August 1863 "lost on battle field at Barbers Creek." W.J. Scroggins was paroled at Fort Delaware July 3, 1863. On July 19, 1863 he appeared on a list of detachment of paroled and exchanged prisoners at Camp Lee near Richmond, Virginia. He was listed as paid on October 31, 1863. On May 15, 1865, W. J. Scogin signed an Oath of Allegiance at Camp Chase, Ohio. Information from the Oath: Place of residence - Lawrence County, Alabama; Complexion - Dk; Hair - Drk; Eyes blue; height 6 feet 1inch: Captured Franklin Tennessee on November 30, 1864.
