Biography

Aaron Jacob Scott was born 23 Feb 1850 on his parents' farm in Wirt County, Virginia, USA. This was one of the 50 Virginia counties that refused to secede from the United States in 1861 when Virginia voted to join the Confederate States of America. It became part of the new US state of West Virginia in 1863. From that time forward he lived in West Virginia, United States.

On the 1870 US Census, Aaron J. Scott was recorded as 20 years old, living on his family farm with his 1st wife, Mary (Fleming) Scott, age 22, and their 2-month-old son, Alfred Scott (b: March 1870), in Murphy Township, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA. [1]

Ten years later, the 1880 US Census, recorded Aaron & Mary E. Scott as married, living on their family farm in Murphy District, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA, with 4 children: Alfred: age 11; Samuel: age 7; Alla: age 9; and James: 1 year old.[2]

On the 1900 US Census, "Andrew * Scott" [sic = Aaron J. Scott] was recorded living with his 2nd wife, [[Rollins-860|Tobitha (Rollins) Scott, and 4 daughters and 1 son, on the same family farm in Murphy District, Ritchie County, West Virginia. [3]

On the 15 April 1910 US Census, "Andrew" [sic = Aaron] J. Scott was recorded as a widower, living on the same family farm with 4 daughters and 1 son, in Murphy District, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA. [4]

Aaron Jacob Scott passed away on 12 September 1911 on his farm in Murphy District, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA. He was buried near his 2 late wives at the Scott Cemetery, Smithville, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA. [5]
