Jane Ewing (born Scott), 1784-1858
JANE SCOTT, daughter of James and Nancy (Cassidy) Scott, was born in Virginia on June 15, 1784. Her gravestone reads: "Jane, Wife of R. Ewing, Died Dec. 29, 1858, aged 74 ys. 6 ms. 14 ds." [1] This agrees with a birthdate of 15 June 1784. Note: The number of years on the gravestone is difficult to read, and could be 71 years, rather than 74, but that would put Jane's birth less than nine months before her brother Martin was born.
On February 28, 1810, Jane married Robert Ewing in Cumberland County, Kentucky.[2] An 1813 deed lists them as "Jane Ewing & Robert Ewing," of Cumberland County, heirs of "James Scott deceased, late of the County of Adair.” [3]
By 1820, they had moved to Adair County, Kentucky, where they appear in the 1820, 1840 and 1850 censuses. (Where were they in 1830?) Sometime after 1850, they moved to Menard County, Illinois.
Jane and Robert both died in Menard County—Jane on December 29, 1858, and Robert on September 3, 1862—and both are buried in Indian Point Cemetery in Menard County. [4]
