Biography

Moses Scott was born 3 Feb 1713 in Hatfield, Mass, son of Josiah Scott.

Moses married 1st on 24 Aug 1742 to Miriam Nash, daug of Ebenezer Nash. Moses settled in Falltown, now Bernardston, Mass. In Aug 1746, Moses, his wife and young children were taken by Indians to Canada.[1] [2]

Miriam died 11 Dec 1746; son Moses jr died 11 Feb 1647.

Moses Scott returned 26 Aug 1747 to Falltown, he married second to unknown.

Children of Moses & Unknown Scott:

  1. Moses born about 1753
  2. Miriam born 12 May 1760
  3. Elihu born 1764
  4. Anna born 22 Nov 1767
  5. Tamar married ----- Hale; he was drowned in the Connecticut river.

Moses Scott died in Bernardston, on 23 July 1799, 86 years old.

" In Aug. 1746 the fort was attacked by a party of French and Indians, numbering more than 700. Defending it were 22 men; a small number of women and children were also present." After two days of fighting, Bosse explained, the French asked for the fort's surrender, negotiated by Hawks and Rev. John Norton, who later published a narrative of his ensuing captivity. Hawks and the others were marched to Canada as prisoners, but they were released and returned to Boston a year later. Only one defender had been killed."[3]
